Hi, I’m Amber!
Emotional Spending vs. Intentional Spending
Raise your hand if you’ve been here…
It’s been a crazy week of back to back calls and big deadlines. The kids are struggling to focus on online school. Your partner is feeling ignored and neglected because you are working so much. The dog ate a hole in your couch. Someone dented your car door in the grocery store parking lot. GAAAHHH! Queue the online shopping spree!
Money is 99% emotional and behavioral and in times of stress (or even times of boredom), many of us turn to emotional spending. Spending $100 on a gorgeous new planner or the latest trendy fashion piece (or insert item of choice here) feels good in the moment. We tell ourselves this purchase is useful and will improve our lives. Maybe it will…or maybe we’ll never use it.
The story that we carry about money comes from our early childhood and was shaped by lessons we had no control over. In our community, we have created a safe container for all of us to discuss money in a way we likely never have before. Here we can begin to heal our relationship with money.
In this week’s episode of Profit for Joy TV, I’m discussing emotional spending and intentional spending.
- What is emotional spending?
- Other options for stress reduction
- How your savings plan effects your emotional spending
